Artists and craftspeople from across the country packed the plaza in the Deer District this weekend for the 47th annual Morning Glory Art Fair.

"Everything is so unique. It's not something you're ever gonna see in the store," Sunday attendee Carol West said.

The annual fair featured everything from jewelry and sculpture, to photography and woodworking.

"I just take a flat panel of white pine, carve it with hand tools, and then I paint it, and I do all sorts of paintings," said Tom Schlenker, of Fine Art Wood Carvings.

One-of-a-kind art was on display for people to admire and purchase at the art fair.

"I like people to see my work. I love it when they love it and we talk about it and sometimes they buy one," Schlenker said.

Artists from near and far traveled to Milwaukee.

"This is my introduction to Milwaukee," Schlenker said.

The Morning Glory Art Fair is hosted by Wisconsin Craft, a nonprofit organization focused on fine crafts.

Every year, a panel of judges comes through to award the artists based on their work.

"They walk around and look at all the art from a critical eye from their perspective," show director Nari Haig said. "Everyone can learn about art. There's no stopping learning about art and that helps everyone in the community

Before the Deer District, the art fair used to be outside the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.
