CHAPPAQUA, NY — The learning center and creative space that has taken Manhattan and the Sound Shore by storm will soon open its newest outpost downtown.

MakeInspires' latest 'Makerspace' location will open soon on S. Greeley Ave. in Chappaqua. MakeInspires will be the first public makerspace in Northern Westchester, offering kids in grades K-12 the chance to learn new skills and explore their tech passions.

The Chappaqua location will open its doors for tours on September 5 and classes will begin on September 19, according to company officials.

In case you were wondering, a makerspace is a collaborative workspace filled with creative tools such as computers, robots, electronics, 3D printers and woodworking tools.

MakeInspires, founded in 2011, says their goal was to create original programming and dedicated Makerspaces to help students "explore technologies and industries at the forefront of the future while cultivating their computational reasoning, critical thinking and creative design skills." These are all critical tools for success in today's increasingly technology-driven world, according to the company. MakeInspires officials said that even as it grows, the company remains dedicated to the mission to inspire lifelong learning and a passion for technology through STEAM education, no matter what a student's knowledge of experience level might be.

"We are really proud of the work we do at MakeInspires in helping to build and support the next generation of makers, people who contribute to society producing work that touches nearly any or every facet of the world around us," founder Travis Sluss said. "Having the unique opportunity to bring our classes and makerspace to a community that supports STEAM Education like Chappaqua is a perfect fit and we are excited."

MakeInspires will host over a dozen weekly classes such as 3D Printing, Coding, Robotics and Game Design. Information on class schedules and registration is available on their website.

The company promises instructors are passionate about their subjects and are provided continual training and support. Their after school programs are featured in over a dozen communities from NYC up to Fairfield, CT.
